THE GENTLE NATURED AND FRIENDLY GIANT
The Big Kitten...
Over centuries, this beautiful breed has been one of the oldest and most modest, majestic cat breeds globally. It is said that the Maine Coon are descendants of domestic short-haired cats that bred with Scandinavian cats brought to North America by Norsemen, but in truth no one really knows for sure.
With an average life span of 13 years, these magnificent creatures, are very affectionate, dog friendly and highly intelligent.
They’re often playful and curious and remain kitten-like throughout their lives, even as older cats, which makes them an endless source of entertainment.

The coat of the Maine Coon is heavy but silky. The the coat is shaggy and drapes longer on the stomach and behind the legs, but is shorter over the shoulders. Despite their large appearance, they are very affectionate, sweet natured and gentle, making them one of the world's most popular cat breeds. They’re an endlessly entertaining cat who can’t resist clowning around with a love of sleeping in odd places and a fascination of water.
Personality
Despite her size and history, the Maine Coon cat is sweet tempered and gentle. She loves her parents and adapts to any environment as long as she has some exercise room. When she runs, she can be quite loud but her soft, quiet voice reassures you that this lion is truly a lamb. They’re a highly intelligent breed who likes to know what is going on in the house.
This intelligence means they learn new things quickly which is handy because their high energy levels mean they need regular exercise and play time. Perhaps the oddest part of their characteristics is their voice which is not your typical meow like other cats; instead they make more of a chirping noise, as well as other noises like yowling.

She loves interactive play and she will play with every family member. Being a larger and heavier cat, she can knock things over without meaning to do so. The Maine Coon's coat needs daily attention. She should be brushed to make certain that her fur does not tangle, and she should be combed to smooth her coat. Usually this grooming is easy to do if she is trained at a young age that this is fun.
